The mother of the Chapel Hill High School football player who died in a weekend hit-and-run accident is calling for the person responsible to come forward.
Rodney Torain, 17, died early Sunday morning. He was a passenger in a car with two other friends when the wreck happend. They told troopers a car ran them off the road near Neville and Old Greensboro Road. Troopers said Torain was not wearing a seatbelt.
Torain's death comes just three months after Atlas Fraley, Torain's teammate and best friend, died from apparent medical problems after a football scrimmage.
On Monday, Torain's family was going through old photos of Rodney at their Orange County home. The one constant in his pictures from elementary school to senior year is his smile. His aunt, Regina Brown, said it reflected who Rodney was on the inside.
"He was a family kind of guy," she said. "If you were his friend, you were his friend to the end."
Brown said the reality is still setting in. Rodney was a stand out on the football team. He would have graduated next year and likely would have played in college.
"He would have been one of those players on TV that you'd be like, 'can I get his autograph?,'" said Brown.
Torain's mother, Deanne Jackson, said she is trying to cope as best she can. She said it's comforting to know that Rodney and Atlas are together again.
"I know he's happy where he is, him and Atlas are together, just like it was in the beginning," said Jackson.
She hopes the person responsible for the weekend wreck will come forward so she can start to have closure.
"To run them off the road and leave them, that's what's really getting me," Jackson said.
Authorities are looking for a gold or silver, four-door sedan. They say it has damage on the passenger side. Anyone with information about the wreck is asked to call 336-570-6809.

Rodney had a great home-going service; the ceremony took place in a community-family-based oriented. My son and his friend came from UNCG early this morning to attend the funerals. I noticed that all the kids were one today, you did not see black, white, chinese, but you see them as "One" I have seen black males, black females, white males, white females comforted each other regardless of their race. It was a great ceremony, the church was packed, very emotional, and it was a very good image of the Chapel Hill/Carrboro City School. It was also great to see the Superintendent. I am so proud to raise my children in such strong community.
