CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -

Police are following up on leads, but still have not found the person responsible for a wreck that killed 17-year-old Chapel Hill High School student Rodney Torain.

Police say the wreck happened early Sunday morning on Old Greensboro Road near Neville Road in Chapel Hill.

"My son had everything in front of him and he was a good kid and he never gave anybody any problems or anything like that. You know, I just don't understand," said Torain's mom, Deanne Jackson.

Latesha Farrington was in the car with Rodney. She says out of nowhere a swerving driver started terrorizing them. Farrington thinks the driver was under the influence.

"He was on our tails. We tried to speed up; he sped right behind us ... I remember Ashley said, she said he was so close at one point she couldn't see his headlights," according to Farrington.

Shortly thereafter driver Ashley Bynum lost control of her car, crashing into a tree.

State troopers say the several leads they have aren't panning out.

"Come turn themselves in ... I just want to know why. Why would you do that to kids?" Jackson said.

Farrington says her back is sore from the crash, but it doesn't compare to the pain of losing a close friend.

Farrington doesn't remember much, but describes the car that hit them as small, and beige or gold in color.

Highway Patrol is asking anyone with any information to call 336-570-6809.

Torain's funeral is this Saturday at the Chapel Hill Bible Church.
