On November 20, 21 and 22, local artist Michael Brown will be restoring the 'Musical Youth' mural located on West Franklin Street.
This is the second mural to be restored as part of the Painted Walls Project; a joint effort of the Preservation Society of Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership, Chapel Hill Historical Society and the Town of Chapel Hill Public Arts Commission to catalog and restore the much-loved murals by Michael Brown in downtown Chapel Hill.
Funds to restore 'Musical Youth' are donated by the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership through an Orange County Arts Commission grant and agency funds.
Brown's murals are an important part of the vitality of the downtown area, attracting visitors, marking a place to meet, or enhancing an evening stroll bringing art into everyday life. The murals are cultural fixtures of our community that make the downtown come alive in colors, figures and patterns. Some murals are tucked in alley ways while some are sprawled across vast building walls; collectively they have helped define a distinctive character that belongs only to Chapel Hill.
Mansion 462, an upscale club on West Franklin Street, will be donating a portion of proceeds from door admissions to the Painted Walls Project for all three nights. Don't miss great local bands and a Latin dance night at Mansion 462 and help fund the future restoration of murals. Visit www.mansion462.com for more information.
