Jesse Kalisher's photographs of the people of White Cross tell the story of their lives in rural Orange County.
It's one of close knit families, farms, and history. So when Kalisher heard the White Cross area was being considered for UNC's airport, he decided to document the people whose lives would be affected if it's built there.
"They really don't understand why this is happening and why it's happening to them and why anyone would want to put an airport on the land their family has had for 100 or 200 years," said Kalisher.
The shoot took a couple of days and he found the people to be open and honest, something that's reflective in the pictures.
"You can't take a teriffic picture of somebody unless they relax and share their innermost self with you," he said.
Kalisher said his was goal was to put real people behind the story and help them have a voice.
"They people of White Crosss, they're like the rest of us," said Kalisher. "They want to live their lives and raise families like everyone else.
You can see Kalisher's photographs at his Carrboro exhibit January 9th through February 5th.
