ORANGE COUNTY, N.C. -

About 500 non-residential Orange Water And Sewer Authority customers have been affected by a billing error, reports OWASA officials.

Customers were incorrectly charged at the peak seasonal water rate of $7.09, instead of the new off-peak rate of $3.73, on their October 16 bill.

Affected customers are in Carrboro, the Southern Village, and downtown Chapel Hill.

"We apologize for any inconvenience to our customers, and we have made process changes to prevent recurrence of this problem," said Jane Showerman, OWASA's Customer Service Manager, in a press release.

Officials said a credit will be applied to the customer's next bill to correct the balances.
