123nc.com, the North Carolina-based company that allows users to search North Carolina criminal records online, will launch the "Fall Free-For-All" promotion on October 15th. The promotion will allow NC residents to search any person's name for NC criminal records for free. Fees will apply only if users choose to view criminal record details. Typically, the service costs $15 per name searched. Economic recession, rising unemployment rates and reports of increased crime across the country have prompted 123nc.com to help fellow North Carolinians protect themselves for free.

NC resident Rebecca Forbes used 123nc.com in September of 2008 during a previous 123nc.com promotion. Forbes emailed, "The information I was able to obtain may save my niece's life. She was dating a man who recently assaulted her. The background check shows a long history of similar offenses. I was able to print the information and give [it] to her with hopes he can be kept in jail until the trial."

123nc.com provides instant access to state courthouse records and contains criminal record data ranging from traffic violations to felonies. The website, which normally charges a $15 fee per record, will offer free name searches from 9:00am October 15th through 5:00pm on November 16th. An additional fee to view criminal record detail will apply.

"With the economy as bad as it is, we want to be sure price doesn't hold North Carolinians back from protecting themselves. We are hoping to allow people to protect themselves and their loved ones by searching for babysitters, neighbors or anyone in their lives," says Elizabeth Bloch, spokeswoman for 123nc.com. Bloch encourages users to search the name of anyone who may have access to their children, their home or their family.
