CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -

Funeral services for Atlas Fraley, 17, will be held today at 4.pm. at the Bible Church in Chapel Hill.

Fraley, a defensive lineman for Chapel Hill High School, died after playing a scrimmage game at Middle Creek High School Tuesday, Aug. 12.  Officials have not said what caused Fraley’s death, however initial reports said Fraley died from an asthma attack.

Grief counselors met with football players, coaches and parents with the Chapel Hill High School football team Wednesday night.

The meeting was held 24 hours after one of the team's lineman died following a practice.

Fraley was entering his senior year at the school.

Fraley was listed as 6 feet 1 inches tall and 254 pounds according to football recruiting website.

Several schools, including N.C. State and Wake Forest, were listed as college prospects.

"Everything he had was mine and everything I had was his," said Antonio Rone, a fellow senior and running back for the Chapel Hill High Tigers. "He was that kind of guy. He took care of us."

The Tigers held a scrimmage against Middle Creek High on Tuesday. Fraley's father tells NBC17 his son's teammates told him Fraley complained of cramping and headaches soon after practice started. It got worse throughout the scrimmage and the cramping was so bad Fraley needed to stand up on the bus on the way back to school.

"They called him several times throughout the afternoon to see if he was okay," said David Fraley, Atlas' Father. "He told them he was, and he was going to take a nap."

Fraley's parents found him dead when they got home from work Tuesday evening.

"His school work was always most important," said Fraley. "Football was important. But while some kids have a goal of playing in the NFL, my son wanted to be an engineer."

School officials said Fraley was impressive on and off the field.

"This was my first year and I was trying to learn names and he told me it was Atlas," remembers Principal Jackie Ellis. "I said, ‘What a strong name. Are you powerful and worldly?' And he said, ‘Yes, maa'm. I am.'"

The team canceled a scrimmage planned for Friday. School starts Aug. 25.
