Scott Klein, professor of English at Wake Forest University, will speak April 17 in UNC's Wilson Library to open the Rare Book Collection exhibit "Joycean Generosity, Joycean Books." The free, public talk will begin at 5:45 p.m.

Klein, who specializes in Joyce and the 20th-century English novel, will discuss the connections between the literary difficulty of Joyce's works and the experiences of his characters and readers as they journey to comprehend their own worlds.

The exhibit honors gifts of rare books to the library by James R. and Mary M. Patton of Tucson, Ariz., and Snowmass, Colo. Besides 30 Joyce items, the exhibit will feature works by poets Sylvia Plath, Ted Hughes, Seamus Heaney and James Dickey—all gifts from the Pattons

"Joycean Generosity, Joycean Books" will be on view April 17 through June 30. On May 15 and June 16, Libby Chenault, Ph.D., rare book collection librarian, will lead free public tours of the exhibit from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Exhibit and tour information: (919) 962-1143 or rbcref@email.unc.edu.
