CHAPEL HILL—The Aveda Institute Chapel Hill raised over $10,000 for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) during the month of October.
A school of cosmetology and skin care, the Aveda Institute students and staff raised the money in one month through a variety of fund-raising efforts: hair and spa guests donated to tip for a cause, students and staff paid $5 to wear jeans during the month of October, and through Beauty for a Cause.
Beauty for a Cause was a one-day event where services were offered at no charge. Students performed approximately 600 haircuts, facials and manicure/pedicures on guests, with all proceeds being donated to BCRF.
The Aveda Institute Chapel Hill raises money monthly for charities through its tip for a cause program. In lieu of tips, guests donate to that month's charity. Also, every April, students and staff raise money for an Earth Month partner by sponsoring a fashion show and a variety of other fundraisers. Last April, the Institute raised $35,000 for the Triangle Land Conservancy.
Since the Institute opened its doors in January 2005, students and staff have raised nearly $250,000 for charities.
