The football game in Chapel Hill on Saturday gave UNC fans something to cheer for, but it also stirred up a lot of excitement for the local tourism industry.
UNC took the victory over visiting Notre Dame, 29 - 24.
After the game, fans from both sides flooded Franklin Street to party, although it seemed a lot sweeter for UNC fans who celebrated the win.
"We went to Notre Dame a couple of years ago and never thought we could ever beat them," said Ken Jernigan, a UNC fan from Cary.
"It's really cool to see what happened this year," he said.
The Chapel Hill Visitors Bureau said it expected the local economic impact from the game's visitors to be around $6 million.
Bob Cress and his fiancé, both Notre Dame fans, came up to watch the game from Greenville, South Carolina and planned on spending two nights in Chapel Hill to see some of the area.
"It was nice to have Notre Dame in the area. They're not really around here too often," he said.
Businesses along Franklin Street were seeing crowds of people all day, spending money on food, drinks and merchandise.
Genny Wrenn, who manages Shrunken Head Boutique, said the store was packed so full before the game it was impossible to move around the store.
Wrenn said UNC's outstanding playing is helping bring in even more fans, and therefore, business.
She said the store gave out 3,000 free Notre Dame buttons in less than three hours on Saturday morning.
"It's been fun. We had a lot of people calling here wanting to know if we had any tickets for sale and no, we didn't have any," she said.
