DANBURY, N.C. --

A new superintendent has been named for Hanging Rock State Park in Stokes County, replacing a chief who recently became a district parks superintendent.

The state Division of Parks and Recreation said Monday that former Eno River State Park Superintendent Dave Cook would take over at Hanging Rock and succeed Erik Nygard.

Cook is a native of Chapel Hill and graduated from N.C. State University in 1982. He was a district executive with Boy Scouts of America before entering the state parks system in 1986 as a ranger at Falls Lake State Recreation Area. He also was a ranger at Morrow Mountain State Park.

Cook also teaches search and rescue techniques and law enforcement physical fitness.

Hanging Rock State Park has 7,044 acres and had 474,455 visits in 2007.
