Authorities say the father of a middle school student who brought a gun onto a bus and wounded a friend has been charged.
Warrants showed that 52-year-old Lawrence Lavon Mouzzon of Youngsville was charged Wednesday with failing to store a firearm to protect a minor.
According to arrest warrants, a 25 caliber pistol, owned by Mouzzon, was brought on to the school bus. According to Greg Thomas, a Wake County Schools PIO, the student was showing the hand gun to a friend when the gun went off.
The bullet grazed the friend's leg. He was transported to Rex Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Wake County School officials have not released the identity of the victim.
No one else was injured in the shooting. The remaining students were taken on to Zebulon Middle School and the wounded student was taken to a hospital. School officials said the wounded boy was in good condition.
According to the PIO, the bus was heading to Zebulon Middle School and only eight students were on the bus at the time.
