The Chapel Hill LEADS, a business networking group sponsored by the Chapel Hill—Carrboro Chamber of Commerce, and A Southern Season teamed up February 13 to collect food and financial donations to benefit the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. Members of the LEADS group collected food and cash donations in the entry foyer of A Southern Season at University Mall.
Dave Stoner of Envirofix spearheaded the effort. “There are children in our community who go to bed hungry, and there are people in our community who can help. The Food Bank is experiencing 30% higher demand right now, and we want to help meet that need.”
Lee Shearer of American Real Estate and Appraisal announced the results of the food drive to the LEADS group during the group’s weekly meeting. “I am overwhelmed by the generosity of you people and our community. We raised $1,501 plus food donations at this food drive. We normally do two of these each year, and I think this is the most we’ve ever received.”
It’s not too late to help. Town Planner is sponsoring drop off locations around town. Marcia Corprew of Town Planner pledges that all donations received will stay in our community, benefitting the Interfaith Council for Social Service and the Durham branch of the Food Bank. “A contribution of just $1 provides 8 servings. If you skip a latte one morning, that $3.25 could provide 26 breakfasts for hungry children.”
