ORANGE COUNTY, N.C. -

Sheriff's officials in Orange County are investigating what they say is an apparent suicide of an inmate.

A press release from the sheriff's department said jail staff were called to J-Cell by inmates around 2:30 a.m. on May 28.

The body of 55-year-old inmate William Marvin Tillery was found inside the cell. Notes announcing his intentions were found on him.

Tillery was put in jail on May 24 for an assault on a female.

The SBI is investigating the death and the body has been transferred to the Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy.
