The long wait will soon be over for some UNC Medical School students. On Thursday, March 20, seniors will find out their residency placements for the next three to seven years of specialty training.
Students are matched with their preferences through the National Resident Matching Program. The excitement will begin at noon in the fourth floor Clinic Auditorium.
UNC Medical School currently admits 160 students per year. The UNC Board of Governors recently announced plans to expand enrollment to 230 students per year to address a pending shortage of physicians statewide. The plan also calls for a task force to expand the number of residency opportunities in North Carolina.
Last year, at least 61 graduates were matched with residencies in North Carolina.
