Governor Bev Perdue met with the Economic Development Board for the first time since she was elected in January.
Board members from the state government and the private sector were there to brainstorm ways to make North Carolina what Perdue calls a "State of Innovation".
"We've got silos all over the state. We've got great pieces of economic development, the best in the country but they are all separate entities so we have to get rid of the silos and we have to focus on innovation and change," Perdue said.
Perdue said they must have a blueprint on ways to make the state's economy competitive on a nation and global level, starting with small businesses.
