North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue has got a big responsibility this weekend - she's the mother of the groom.
Perdue's office said her son Emmett is getting married Saturday night to Sara Thomas in a church ceremony on isolated Ocracoke Island on the Outer Banks. An outside reception was to follow.
Perdue had spent the past few days at Ocracoke, which is accessible only by plane or boat, leaving briefly Friday to attend a forum on wind power in nearby Buxton on Hatteras Island.
The governor has two sons. The other son, Garrett, is already married. She also has two stepchildren from husband Bob Eaves' previous marriage.
The new couple will live in Raleigh.
