Wake Board of Commissioners Chairman Harold Webb was released from the hospital Monday after suffering a stroke.
Webb, 84, was at an event last week when he felt ill and was rushed to the hospital.
A spokeswoman for Rex Hospital said Webb was released sometime Monday.
Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday afternoon for the first time since Webb suffered the stroke.
Vice Chair Lindy Brown led the meeting and said the board is looking forward to Webb's return.
"I want to extend to him deepest sympathy and prayers," she said.
Webb was first appointed to the Board of Commissioners in 2003, was elected in 2004 and then re-elected last year.
His term is set to expire in three years.
