FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

One woman died after a school bus and car crashed in Fayetteville.

The accident happened around 7:45 Thursday morning in the area of Raeford Road and Purdue Drive.

Police say two women were in a Buick Lasabre and the passenger, Annie Wilson Thomas, 78, died as a result of her injuries.  The driver, Joe Ann Pelchat, 71, is being treated for serious injuries at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The school was carrying seven special needs students, all of which were unharmed.

The school bus driver, Norman Upshire, did not suffer any injuries.

Police say Pelchat failed to yield to a flashing yellow light and attempted to make a left turn onto Purdue Drive causing the coming school bus to strike her car.
