A hearing by electric regulators on Duke Energy's request to raise its base rates in North Carolina has been delayed.
The state Utilities Commission had planned to begin the examination Wednesday in Raleigh. But the Charlotte-based utility and the commission's consumer representatives said the hearing was pushed back to Thursday after attorneys met Wednesday morning.
The state Attorney General's Office had asked earlier this week for more time to respond to additional testimony from Duke Energy.
Duke Energy and the commission's Public Staff reached a tentative agreement in which the utility's 1.8 million customers in North Carolina would see their bills go up a combined 7 percent on average through 2011.
A commission ruling may come several weeks after the hearing ends.
