Chapel Hill Apartment Fire Damages Half Of 24 Units

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -

An early morning fire at the SunStone Apartments in Chapel Hill damaged 12 of its 24 units and caused the evacuation of 33 residents.

Crews arrived on the scene at SunStone Apartments in Chapel Hill just after 4:30 a.m. The apartments are located at 208 Conner Drive, just off of E. Franklin Street.

Five units from Chapel Hill, two from Carrboro, two units from Durham and one unit from New Hope Fire Departments brought the blaze under control at 5:45 a.m.

Fire officials said police and neighbors notified occupants of the fire. Two residents were rescued by use of a ladder from a third-story balcony and two firefighters suffered minor injuries.

The investigation into the fire continues and there is no word on what started the blaze.
