Carrboro's El Centro Latino has announced it has closed its doors to the public due to the recession.
On November 18, the Board of Directors decided that ECL did not have sufficient funds to continue operating at its current capacity.
"El Centro Latino has been dealing with many challenges, including reduced grants and donations, leadership and staff transitions, as well as the economic recession. All these factors have made it difficult for ECL to continue pursuing its mission," stated a press release.
The Board assures the community that the organization is not going away completely and a community-wide meeting will be held to discuss plans for the future.
