The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Department of Public Safety is warning the campus community of a robbery that took place on north campus just before 2 a.m. Saturday.
Police say a 23-year-old male UNC student was walking towards campus when he met two men in a restaurant. When the victim reached the Morehead Planetarium, one of the two men he had previously met struck him from behind. According to police, the victim was knocked down to the ground and the two suspects continued to hit the victim.
The suspects fled the scene on foot, stealing the victim’s wallet and some cash.
Both suspects have a dark complexion and are in their early-to-mid-20s. On suspect was wearing khaki cargo pants, a white tank-top and baseball cap at the time of the incident. There is no description of the second suspect at this time.
Police say no weapons were used during the robbery.
Public safety officials urged the community to follow the following safety tips.
- Don't walk alone at night. Use the buddy system. Walk in well-lit areas of campus.
- Immediately report any and all suspicious activity to law enforcement by calling 9-1-1. Remember that 9-1-1 is not only for emergencies. If you do not have a cell phone, use the call boxes located across campus.
- After 3 a.m., use UNC’s free Point-to-Point demand service by calling 962-7867 (962-P-TO-P) and providing your UNC personal identification number. The service is available at night to UNC students, faculty and staff at various locations during summer months.

This guy met the two attackers in a restaurant and the only description he can give is “dark complexion”. What does that even mean? Are they tan white guys, black, latino? Political correctness is unhelpful in criminal investigations. The public has the right to have an accurate description of the suspects so that we can preserve our personal safety.
